Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about EV charging

Got questions about getting an EV charger installed at your home or business? We've answered the most common ones below.

A standard household power point delivers roughly 2kW, which means painfully slow charging — often 20+ hours for a full battery. A dedicated Level 2 EV charger delivers 7kW on single-phase or up to 22kW on three-phase, cutting charge times down to 4–8 hours. It's also significantly safer, with dedicated circuit protection, and allows you to take advantage of smart features like off-peak scheduling and solar integration.
Our chargers use the Type 2 connector, which is the Australian standard. This means they're compatible with virtually every EV sold in Australia, including Tesla, BYD, Hyundai, Kia, MG, BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Polestar, Volvo, Nissan, and more. If you're unsure about your specific vehicle, just ask us — we'll confirm compatibility before quoting.
Possibly. An EV charger draws significant power — similar to adding 2–3 air conditioning units. Many older switchboards and fuse boxes weren't designed for this kind of load. As part of every installation, we assess your switchboard capacity first and let you know if an upgrade is needed. If it is, we handle the full upgrade as part of the project — no need to organise a separate sparky.
A standard residential installation is typically completed within the same day — usually around 3–5 hours depending on the complexity. You'll need to be around at the start and end so we can walk you through the setup. Your power may be turned off for a portion of the install, but we keep disruption to a minimum.
Every installation is different, so there's no fixed price. The cost depends on factors like the distance from your switchboard to the charger location, whether a switchboard upgrade is needed, the type of charger you choose, and your property's existing wiring. We provide upfront, honest pricing with no hidden fees — you'll know exactly what it costs before we start.
Absolutely. We can set up your EV charger to work with your existing solar system, so you're charging your car with free energy from the sun. Smart chargers can be configured to prioritise solar excess, meaning you only draw from the grid when solar isn't available. It's one of the best ways to maximise your solar investment.
The most common spot is your garage or carport wall, but we install in a range of locations including driveways and outdoor walls. We'll consider where your car's charge port sits, how you normally park, and the distance to your switchboard. Our chargers are weather-resistant, so outdoor installs are no problem.
